Phonics
In Reception and Year One phonics is taught for 20 minutes everyday. Children begin in Reception by learning to hear and blend sounds (phonemes) in words. They will learn all of the Phase 2 phonemes.
Children in Reception will then move Phase 3. Here they will begin to learn digraphs (two letters one sound) and trigraphs (three letters, one sound).
Before children leave Reception they will move to Phase 4. Here they will learn how to use the phonemes they have already learnt to read and spell longer words.
