Foundation for Phonics (Nursery)
In Nursery children will spend time each day in small groups playing with sounds. They will go on listening walks to ‘tune into different sounds’ and talk about what they can hear.
Children will listen to sounds that sound that same and begin to think of words that rhyme.
They will begin to identify the first sound in words and listen to words that begin with the same sound.
By the time children leave Nursery they will be able to identify separate sounds in words and will be able to orally blend sounds together to make full words.
All children in Nursery will enjoy listening to lots of stories, poems and songs every day.
