Phonics Screening Check

Phonics Screening Check

During the Summer Term all children in Year One will complete the Phonics Screening Check. This is a statutory assessment that all children in Year One must take. During the check children will work 1-1 with their class teacher to read 40 words. 20 of these words are ‘real words’ and 20 of them are pseudo (alien words). By reading alien words

we can assess if children know and can use all the phonemes they have been taught to read.

A parent’s workshop will be help nearer the date, to give more information and to show how you can support your child at home. In the meantime, this video will give you a picture of how these ‘alien words’ are taught.
