Phonics Sessions in Year One

In Year One, Phonics is taught for 20 minutes, every day. Year one begins by recapping all of the phonemes children learnt in Phases 2-4 in Reception before moving onto Phase 5.

In Phase 5, we begin to ‘grow the code’. Children are taught alternative ways to write some phonemes.
