After such sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we are just writing to confirm that Monday 19^th September is now a Bank Holiday for the State Funeral of Her Majesty the Queen.  Schools will be closed on the 19^th as a mark of respect. In his speech yesterday, King Charles III declared a Bank Holiday for his mother’s funeral, and this has also been confirmed in a statement to all schools from the DfE (Department for Education).  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family at this sad time.

You will have all heard the sad news that Queen Elizabeth II has passed away today at her home in Balmoral at the age of 96.  This is such a significant, poignant and symbolic moment - a part of our lifetime that will be one of the most historical events that will be spoken about, written about, read about and taught to future generations for years and years to come.

In school tomorrow, we will be marking the Queen's 70 years as our monarch, celebrating her life and long reign, and discussing the sad news of her death.  We will be meeting together for a special whole school assembly and teachers will also spend time with their class discussing this at an age-appropriate level.

We will also be sharing some special news with the children about a very important letter from Balmoral castle that we have had delivered this week to school addressed to the children - watch this space!
