Wednesday 26th February

Goodness, another half term and what a busy week we have had already!  3D have been to All Saints Church for their Time Travelling event and also Patchings Art Centre and 3V have their Patchings visit on Friday.

As part of our Science topic we are looking at nutritional values of the food we eat and would love to be able to make our learning 'real'. Could we please ask you to send your child into school with an empty packet/box/food sleeve/food bag from items such as: crisps, microwave meals, cereals, fruit bags etc. Thank you in advance.

Next Thursday we are holding our World Book Day event. Children can (if they wish to) come into school dressed as their favourite book character. Please ensure they still bring sensible shoes and a warm coat, as they will still be outside at playtime and lunchtime.

A reminder that we will be holding our Egyptian Afternoon on Monday 16th March. This will take place in the Community Room from 1:30pm.

We are excited to welcome Mr Aldridge into Year 3!  He will be teaching 3V on Friday mornings and will join them this week on their trip to Patchings, so he can get to know the children.  The children have been told and are very excited!

Wednesday 5th February

We are sorry that we didn't give you any weekly news last week.   As you know, we had Ofsted in and want you to know that we couldn't be any more proud of how your children behaved.  The inspector asked the children lots of questions and they were all eager to answer her with sensible and knowledgeable answers. Well done Year 3 and thank you for showing off how much you have learnt already this year!

Next week 3V with be visiting Annesley Church for their Time Travelling event.  This takes place in normal school time on Wednesday morning and you do not need to do anything for this event.  We will leave after the register has been taken and will return before lunchtime begins.

If you have a newspaper at home, please could you save any old copies and bring them into school. Thanks in advance for this, our supplies are running low!

Any disco slips and money need to be in school as soon as possible please.

As always, thank you for your support!

Wednesday 15th January

What a wonderful time we have had this morning with our visiting Author Billy Bob Buttons. The children enjoyed his inspiring workshop and learnt skills on how to become great writers. We are sure they will tell you all about it!

We have given out many, many, raffle tickets this week for all the children who have read more than 3 times.  Thank you for your support with this, we do appreciate it.

Thank you for returning slips promptly, this really helps.  If you have not yet returned your slip for our Patching's visit can you do this as soon as you are able.

A reminder that children with new instruments will need to bring them into school EVERY Monday for their lessons. We hope you are enjoying listening to them practise at home too!

Spellings to learn this week are spellings 6 - 10 on either Set 2 or 3. These will be tested on Friday.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Year 3 Team

Wednesday 8th January 2020!

Happy New Year!

We have a busy term ahead of us in Year 3 with all things Egyptian!

Next week, we have an author visiting us on Wednesday 15th January to hold a workshop.

We will be Time Travelling at Annesley Church this half term to learn more about the Christin Faith and places of worship.  This is a FREE event and will take place during school time on 12th February for 3V and 26th February for 3D.

We are very fortunate to be able to visit Patching's Art Centre where the children will learn about the artist Claude Monet and learn to paint in his style.  3D will visit on Monday 24th February and 3V will visit on Friday 28th February. There will be a separate letter regarding this coming out to you this week, please look out for this.

An advanced warning!  We would love you to join us for our Egyptian Afternoon on Monday 16th March, where the children will be more than happy to show you what they have learnt about Ancient Egypt over the term.  Be warned... There will be bandages involved!  Please look out for a separate letter regarding this later on in the term.

Spelling tests will start again this week.  We are starting back at the beginning again to work towards our SILVER spelling award.  Some children in 3D may have already been tested on their first 5 spellings, for these children you may have a week off!  This ensures that everyone is at the same point next week.

As a school, we expect your child to read at least three times a week. This should then be recorded in their Home/School Reading Diary.  Each week children will be rewarded with raffle tickets if they have read the expected three times or more.  The rewards are:

Reading 5x or more = 5 tickets

Reading 4x = 4 tickets

Reading 3x = 3 tickets

Many of you with older children in school will know this already.  In KS2, there will be an EGG COMPETITION instead of an Easter Hat Parade, on the last day of the Spring term in April.  More details from Mrs Jones to follow!

Please pop in if you have any questions

The Year 3 Team

Wednesday 11th December 2019

Sorry for the lack of newsletter last week.

A reminder that he KS2 Christmas Production will be at St. John's Church next week.  If your child is taking part in this you can come to watch on Tuesday evening for Year 3/4 parents and Wednesday evening for year 5/6 parents. The children will be needed for both performances.

Your child should have come home with a note for party food.  Please bring in them into your child's classroom.  Please bring in all perishable food on the day of the party.  If you would like your food container returning, please can you ensure that it is labelled.  This is a non-uniform day so your child can come into school wearing their party clothes.

Talent show.  On the morning of Party Day, a talent show is held in the community room for all children.  The variety of talent is vast. In the past, we have had: singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, musicians, the list is endless!  If your child has a talent that they would like to share, then this is their time to shine! (It's also fine if they get stage fright and change their minds!)

Next weeks' reminders:

Wednesday 18th - Christmas Dinner Day

Thursday 19th    - Party Day

Friday 20th        - Christmas Jumper Day - non uniform

We hope you have a fabulous family Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 6th January 2020!

Wednesday 27th November 2019

Our Year 3 Parents' Evenings are now underway.  Thank you for making the time to see us, it is important that we speak to you about how your children are settling into life in the Juniors.  Please note that we have to keep to a fairly rigid 10 minute time slot. If you have further issues you needs to discuss that may take longer than this, we will happily see you after school another evening.

We have had an incredible response to our Year 3 'Stationery' Hamper for the Christmas Raffle.  Thank you very much for your generosity.

If your child has shown an interest in being part of our KS2 Christmas Production, they should have already been given a Rehearsal Schedule with lunchtime and after school rehearsals from Mrs Jones.  If you have any problems with any of these dates, Please let Mrs Jones know.

Wednesday 20th November 2019

We have had our Country in a Box event this morning. Thank you so much to the people that were able come and join us.  It was wonderful to see you all and we're not sure we have never had such a huge response before.  We are very impressed with how much information the children could tell us about the things in their box and all the hard work the children (and you) have put into their boxes, wow!  Mrs Jones is so impressed , that she would like to keep a few of these for a while to put onto display in our reception area.

We now have the total for our Action Aid fundraising.   We have managed to raise an incredible £135.05!  Thank you!  We have decided to spend this money on:  1 x Family sized disaster relief shelter,  20 x  school aged stationery sets (pens, pencils, exercise books) and 2 x Goats to be used for milk and breeding.

A gentle reminder that our main Parents' Evenings are next week.  Please see your child's teacher if you have not already made an appointment.  We are very much looking forward to seeing you.

Wednesday 13th November 2019

We are very excited that our Country in a Box date is getting so close.  Please can all your boxes be in school by Friday 15th November.  This event is taking place in the Kilborn Community Room on Wednesday 20th November from 9.15am.  Refreshments will be served, so please pop up early and have a cuppa first!  We are looking forward to seeing many of you next week.

You should have received a letter this week inviting you to our Parents' Evenings this November.  Please fill in your preferred time slots and we will give you an appointment.  Please note that these times are given on a first come, first served basis.

Thank you for all of the stones that were brought into school for Remembrance Day.  The children have painted them beautifully with poppies.  We are glazing them and are hopefully going to be making a permanent remembrance fixture around the sundial at the top of the steps. We will post a photograph on here when we have finished this.

School Council have the children to bring in donations for the Hamper raffles this Christmas.  Year 3 will be making a STATIONERY hamper.  All donations will be gratefully received!

Friday is the last day for any Action Aid money. We will let you all know how much we have raised when we have totalled this all up and sent it off.

Wednesday 6th November 2019

Welcome back. We hope that you have had a lovely 2 week half term break.  We are incredibly proud of the hard work, extra help and chores that your children have been doing around your houses for Action Aid.  Please can we have any remaining Action Aid money in by Friday 15th November so this can then be totalled up and sent off.  As soon as we have a final amount we will of course let you know how much we managed to raise.

We are also beginning to receive the Country in a Box homework. Can we just say...WOW!  They are looking fantastic and we can't wait for the children to show them off to you during our morning on 20th November. Could we please have them all in by Friday 15th November.  We would like to create some Remembrance Art next week. Could we ask you please to send in your child with a small, smooth rock/large stone (approximately 8cm diameter) ready for next Monday. Thank you so much in advance!

A small reminder that our photographer is in school next Wednesday for individual photos.

With everything due in, Friday 15th November is already beginning to look like a VERY busy day!  however, it is of course Children in Need day.  This will be non-uniform and there will also be a tuck shop.  Wrist bands are being sold and colouring/number sheets are available from main reception.  Please see the letter already sent home, or the posters around school.

Wednesday 16th October 2019

Thank you very much for all of your donations to our Harvest Festival 'Food Bank' collection. We have had a very positive response.

Your child may have been quite keen to start completing chores with you at home. This is because Y3 are supporting the Action Aid charity this year.  Please send in any money 'earned'  over half term into school either with your child or straight to the office. (not on Scopay, sorry!)

A reminder that we break  up for half term on Friday 18th October and that we also have an INSET day on Monday 4th November. School reopens for children on Tuesday 5th November.

Thank you for all the baking money you have already sent in.  This week we have written our own recipes for Rock Cakes and we will be making them tomorrow! (Let's hope they remembered to include all the ingredients in their writing!) If you have yet to send in your money, can you please do this as soon as you are able.

Our Country in a Box morning will be held in the KCR on Wednesday 20th November.  We hope you already have some lovely ideas.  If you are struggling for a box, please pop into school and speak with one of us where we can hopefully sort you out.

We hope you have a lovely half term,

The Year 3 Team

Wednesday 9th October 2019

WOW! What a fantastic day we have had! We will put some photographs on here as soon as we are able!

Wednesday 2nd October 2019

Thank you for returning your slips for Creswell Crags. We are very much looking forward to our visit next week. If your child is wanting a packed lunch from school then this should have already been ordered on your return slip. Please also remember to send your child in old, warm , waterproof clothing.

A reminder that your child will need to bring in a full outdoor P.E. kit including jogging bottoms and a hoodie or sweatshirt. Weather permitting, we will be having many P.E. sessions outdoors.  Our days have changed, so will now have P.E. on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.

For our Harvest Festival this year, we are collecting tins and packets for our local food bank.  Please could you send in any donations with your child.  Thank you in advance.

Sorry for any confusion, last week when we asked for £5 for baking activities over the year.  Could this please be sent as cash into your child's teacher. Many thanks.

Wednesday 25th September 2019

Another Busy week!  We have our Italian Day tomorrow. Your child should have come home this evening with a reminder letter.

Our KS2 Aspire Afternoon begins this Friday. This will run for 5 weeks.

Please remember to return your Creswell Crags slip by this Friday 27th September.

We hope you have begun to think about your 'Country in a Box' homework. If you are struggling for a box, please come and see us, we may be able to help out.

Each term we aim to support our topic with a baking experience.  For this, we are asking for a donation of £5 for the whole year.  This term, we will be using the money towards making Pizzas for MFL Day, Rock Cakes for our Stone Age topic, cookie archaeology and Christmas baking activities.

Please could you ensure that your child does not wear, or is able to remove their own earrings on P.E. days. If they are newly pierced and cannot be removed yet, Please send in plasters to put over their ears during these sessions as your child may not be able to do P.E. otherwise.

The times tables section in your Home/School books are for you to practise weekly with your child.  We would recommend  X3 first.

Wednesday 18th September 2019

Wow! What a wonderful turnout this afternoon for our Meet the Teacher drop in session, it was lovely to meet you all properly.  If you couldn't make it, please don't worry, we will send your child home tomorrow with the information sheet we handed out.

We are celebrating our Modern Foreign Languages day next Thursday 26th September.  Year 3 will be looking at all things 'Italian' during the day and will even be making their own PIZZA! This is a non-uniform day and we would encourage your child to come to school wearing one (or all!) of the Italian flag colours of red, white or green.

We have glued your child's Times Tables Rockstars username and passwords into the back of their home/school diaries.  Each child's tables have now been updated OUT of automatic mode!

If you have not already done so, please could you return the slip at the bottom of the Creswell Crags letter as soon as you are able to. This will be an action packed trip of activities and workshops led by experts from the centre and we are very, very excited!

Please could you also return the Yellow Contact Information slips sent out by the office earlier in September. It is important that your information is kept as up to date as possible.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please pop in and speak with one of us.

Healthy Snacks/Biscuits

There has been some confusion this week regarding biscuits/healthy snacks.  To clarify, after speaking with Mrs Jones, your child will be able to have their healthy snack ALONGSIDE their biscuits at play times. Sorry for any confusion caused this week.  Mrs Jones will be putting this on a newsletter to all parents.
