Week Ending 16th October 2020

Both classes had a great time making seasonal vegetable soup. We had spicy carrot and potato, spicy leek and potato and carrot and mixed herbs soups! The children have 'published' their non chronological reports and these are ready to be displayed in the classroom. These look fabulous and are a real credit to the children, showing how much they have learnt about teeth and digestion over the last 6 weeks.

We can't believe this half term is now at an end. The children have worked incredibly hard and are well deserving of this two week break.

Have a great holiday. See you in November!

Week Ending 9th October 2020

Wow! We've had such a busy, but exciting week! Not only have we been working hard on writing our non-chronological reports on teeth and digestion but we have also had our Language Day and made a good start on our Design and Technology project (making seasonal vegetable soup!). For our Language Day, Year 4 researched Italy on the iPads, they created their own version of Leonardo Da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa' and we also, tasted a variety of Italian foods including olives, grana padano, cured ham, sun dried tomato and pesto bruschetta and Italian sweet biscuits. The cheese and sweet biscuits were the clear 'hits' with all the children! We also tasted some different vegetable soups this week, including carrot and parsnip and pototo and leek. Next week, the children are looking forward to making and tasting their own.

Both classes voted for their class representatives for school council. We were so impressed with the number of children wanting to take part in campaigning and were blown away with the amount of effort children had put into this. Thank you for your support.

Just to say, we will send reminder emails the night before Year 4 are due to have PE, as this can be on different days on different weeks. Also, please can you encourage your child to practise their spellings, times tables and also, their reading at home each week.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 4 Team :-)

Week Ending 2nd October 2020

We can't believe there are only two weeks until half term! It's gone so quickly! This week we have been busy working on our estimating skills in Maths, estimating the position of numbers on a number line. In English, we have been getting to grips with grammar skills linked to our unit of work on Teeth and Digestion non chronological reports, ready to begin writing our own next week. We have so much to look forward to over the next couple of weeks - our Language Day is on Wednesday 7th October, focusing on Italy and we will be tasting, planning and making seasonal vegetable soup in Design and Technology.

Just to say, we will send reminder emails the night before Year 4 are due to have PE, as this can be on different days on different weeks. Also, please can you encourage your child to practise their spellings, times tables and also, their reading at home each week.

Week Ending 25th September 2020

This week we have started to learn about Non Chronological Reports in English - we will soon be writing our own about Teeth and Digestion, linking to all our amazing learning in Science! In Maths this week, we have continued our work on counting, including work on negative numbers. In readiness for making a seasonal vegetable soup before half term, we have started to research which fruit and vegetables are 'in season' throughout the year in the UK. It was interesting to find out which fruit and vegetables we had never heard of or which fruit and vegetables we haven't tried before!

Just to say, we will send reminder emails the night before Year 4 are due to have PE, as this can be on different days on different weeks. Also, please can you encourage your child to practise their spellings, times tables and also, their reading at home each week.

Week Ending 18th September 2020

We have been working hard on our character description of Miss Root from the Demon Dentist this week - the children have included lots of fantastic adjectives, similes and even expanded noun phrases in their written work. We are very impressed!

In Science, we carried out a practical experiment to demonstrate the human digestive process using items such as bananas, crackers, orange juice and a pair of tights! It was very messy but we all had fun!

Just to say, we will send reminder texts the night before Year 4 are due to have PE, as this can be on different days on different weeks. Also, please can you encourage your child to practise their spellings, times tables and also, their reading at home each week.

Week Ending 11th September 2020

Year 4 have had a great, full, first week back! We have been incredibly impressed with how hard the children have worked and settled into their new class. We have got stuck in straight away with our new topic, Healthy Living. In Science, we have identified the organs that are part of the digestive system in the human body, beginning to understand each organ's function (we definitely had fun practising pronouncing organ names such as 'oesophagus' and 'duodenum'!). We have also been working hard on place value in Maths and character descriptions in English. Year 4 are certainly enjoying our class text, Demon Dentist which we started earlier this week!

Please refer to the letter that was sent out via email earlier in the week regarding PE and homework (reading, spelling and times tables) expectations. The letter is also on the bottom of this webpage. Check this page every week for weekly updates!

We look forward to what next week will bring! Have a great weekend everyone!
