Homework Expectations

Children are set the same homework every week.

  • Reading their book at least three times a week
  • Learning and practising set spellings
  • Learning and practising set times tables

On Tuesday, children will be given new spellings to learn (these will be written in their school planner). These spellings will then be tested the following Tuesday. The spelling words are taken from the statutory spelling list for Year 3 / Year 4 and it is essential that your child learns and practises these.

Also, on a Tuesday, children will be given a times table to focus on for the week and will be given a short activity linked to the times table to complete at home. The children have written their Times Table Rockstars login in the back of their planners. Please encourage your child to use TTR to practise their times table recall (the format will be very similar to the official multiplication check the children will take in June). If you are unable to use TTR, please encourage your child to practise their times tables in other ways e.g. chanting, singing songs, making flashcards so your child can stick them in places they will keep seeing them.

Your child’s reading needs to be recorded in their planners. This will be checked by the class teacher each week. We aim for children to read at least 3 times a week.
