In Year 4, your child should be able to:
Solve addition and subtraction two step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why.
Add and subtract numbers with up to 4 digits using the formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction where appropriate.
Estimate and use inverse (the opposite) operations to check answers to a calculation.
Below are some different addition and subtraction investigations and challenges that your child could have a go at if they feel they are really secure with addition and subtraction. They should use scrap paper to do any working out.
